What Is IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as a language of communication. It uses a nine-band scale to clearly identify levels of proficiency, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).

Your English language Listening, Reading and Writing skills will be tested on the same day. There is no break between these tests – you will take them one after the other. Your Speaking assessment will be held separately, either on the same day or up to seven days before or after your Listening, Reading and Writing tests. This depends on your test centre.

Training Programmes

IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training

IELTS is available in: Academic - for people applying for higher education or professional registration, and General Training for those migrating to Australia, Canada and the UK and work in an English-speaking environment. Both versions provide a valid and accurate assessment of the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

IELTS Intensive Training Programme

The London House of English (LHE) provides test takers with expert advice on how to prepare for the test with our extensive resources and face-to-face intensive IELTS training programme. Test takers are guided to familiarise themselves with the format of the tests and practice their test techniques on our free timed practice tests. The content of the programme is tailored to deliver results based on your goals and provide you with a clear outcome. We aim to ensure that our learners achieve their goals in the IELTS examinations and excel in their career, studies or new life abroad.
